The Crossroads range from U.K. brand leaders, Tanglewood, is exceptional value and rivals instruments costing considerably more! They have become our ‘go to’ instrument at Holmes Music for anyone looking to get their first guitar. Starting on a Tanglewood Crossroads will be a big advantage to your learning curve as you get a better all round instrument!
Here’s what Tanglewood have to say about them...
The Tanglewood Crossroads Acoustic Guitar in Whiskey Barrel Burst finish is the perfect hybrid model for those seeking a versatile guitar for both fingerstyle and flatpicking. Sitting somewhere in size between the Orchestra model and a Dreadnought, the Super Folk offers a comfortable feel, with a focused output, and crystal-clear timbre. Whether you're flying solo or performing with others, the Crossroads sounds just right.
CROSSROADS SERIES
Taking their cue from heritage models of the 1930s, Tanglewood sought to recreate the stripped back-style of those early guitars whilst upholding their resilient build, and hearty energy. Designed in collaboration with luthier Michael Sanden (who crafted Tanglewood's Masterdesign series), the Crossroads' series adheres to very simple principles that involve sourcing the finest materials, sparing no expense down to the finest detail, and ensuring that each and every guitar is worthy of the Tanglewood name.
SUPER FOLK BODY SHAPE
The Guitar is shaped to the Super Folk body profile, which sits slightly smaller in size when compared to a dreadnought. The shallower body depth and reduced proportions make it more comfortable to play for younger players and those with a shorter reach. As noted above, if you're solo performer, the super folk is ideal to perform with thanks to its focused upper mid-range timbre.
The top is crafted using hand-selected genuine mahogany, which is paired with mahogany back and sides, resulting in a rich timbre that is infused with a warm character. As noted above, Sanden's unique bracing pattern allows the soundboard to resonate freely, whilst preventing unwanted buckling or warping over time.
NECK AND FINGERBOARD
Fitted to the body is a solid and durable mahogany neck, which is shaped to a unique profile to facilitate comfort alongside stability. Married to the neck is a rosewood fingerboard, which is home 20-frets that are adorned with dot position inlays. The fingerboard ensures smooth transitions between frets, making it delightfully comfortable to perform on, as well as adding to the stunning overall finish.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
The body is home to a rosewood bridge, which matches elegance with stability to ensure a solid anchor point for the strings. Thanks to the superb partnership of hardware and construction across the guitar, intonation and sustain is optimised for peerless performance at this price range. Chrome die-cast tuning machines uphold tuning integrity dutifully throughout the most enthusiastic of performances. Another unique touch is the Whiskey Barrel Burst Satin finish, created exclusively for the Crossroads series of models.
ELECTRONICS
The TWCR SFE is equipped with the Tanglewood TW-EX4 EQ system, which is a pickup and preamp partnership that translates the timbre of the parlour to perfection. The system has a 4-band EQ with slider tone controls for bass, mid, treble, and presence, along with a separate volume control dial. The TW-EX4 allows you to sculpt and shape your output to meet your personal preference, as well as suit your performance environment. There is also a built-in chromatic tuner, so you can keep on top of your strings' tuning throughout each and every performance.
